Greenbutts™ are patented filters that are made of all-natural, food-grade fibers. We’ve spent almost a decade designing and developing these filters to provide the same taste and filtration properties as current acetate filters. Our goal is to facilitate a seamless transition for the cigarette industry to switch from acetate ( plastic ) filters to our biodegradable alternative.

The speed of degradation depends on environmental factors ( moisture, bacteria and sunlight ). Through various tests we have found that Greenbutts™ filters will disperse in water within several minutes with agitation and begin to degrade in compost within several days.  This as opposed to cellulose acetate which has been shown to take 10-15 years to degrade.

Greenbutts™ filters are currently in production and available for cigarette brands seeking to move away from cellulose acetate SUP. Greenbutts™ is first and foremost a research and development company. We have the ability through our manufacturing partners to produce substrate material and filters to customer specifications for various applications. We can also work with our clients to provide patented technology and know-how to produce these filters in their own facilities.
